FAQs

What songwriting experience level do I need to attend?

This retreat is for songwriters of all levels - from beginner to professional. Inspiration will be had by all, even if you have never written a song before, and for those who have, we will dive even deeper!

Do I need to be able to play an instrument and sing?

Playing an instrument is not a requirement to be a songwriter. And we feel that everyone with vocal cords can sing! If you have an acoustic instrument you are certainly welcome, even encouraged, to bring it!

What should I bring?

Part of the charm of this beautiful farm is that you are in nature, and we encourage you to dress and pack for comfort. Class is held in the large, unconditioned barn loft so while it is covered and protected from wind and rain, there may be chilly days. Bring rain gear; layers, including warm clothing; shoes that are good for walking on uneven and possibly wet ground.

We also recommend you bring something to write with, your instrument, snack food, and a reusable water bottle. And your yoga mat for morning yoga (which is optional).

What is the cancellation policy?

Your non-refundable payment of $150 reserves your space upon acceptance. The remaining balance is due by August 31st, and is non-refundable after this date.

Can I bring my partner, my pet, or a friend with me?

Out of respect for everyone, including our farm hosts, this retreat space is for participants only. No pets are allowed on site.

Are there onsite accommodations? Can I bring my RV?

On-site camping is available. There is a $100 camping fee. You’ll be responsible for bring your own camping gear. There will be portable toilets and an outdoor shower for you to use as well. No pets are allowed on site.

We cannot accommodate RVs as we have no hookup facilities). If you have a small camper or van, let us know.

There are a number of AirBnB and VRBO options in the surrounding area, which offer a wide range of accommodations.

Is there cell service at Odonata Farm?

Cell phone service is mediocre due to the mountains and tree cover; it depends where you are standing on the property. There is wifi that everyone is welcome to use and that works well for texting and wifi calling.

What is the weather like there in late October?

The typical temperatures for late-October in the Asheville area are in the mid-60s to low 70's during the day, dropping into the 40s at night. There can occasionally be a rainy front that will sweep in and cool things down to the low 50s during the day, or we can occasionally see warmer daytime temps up into the high 70's/ low 80's as well. The mountains create very changeable weather conditions, so we strongly recommend you pack to dress in comfortable layers and bring something warm, a raincoat, some good socks and sturdy shoes that you won't mind possibly getting damp or muddy in the fields if it rains. Comfort is key.

Is the retreat ADA Accessible?

We regret that it is not and we will be working on ways to be more inclusive of our friends with differing abilities in the future. Odonata is a beautiful and somewhat rustic farmstead with some uneven footing and there are stairs that lead up to the barn studio where we will meet each day
